Read Anthem, by Ayn Rand. Please answer the following questions.
- Write about a connection you had with a stranger.
- Read the forward. Write about the idea of conservatism. How is the political climate that Ayn Rand writes about in the 1930s similar to today’s political climate?
- Respond to the statements on p. 73: “What is not thought by all men cannot be true.” “What is not done collectively cannot be good.” Do you agree or disagree? Why?
- Why did Ayn Rand name her main characters “Prometheus” and “Gaea”? Look these names up in mythology. Compare the myths about Prometheus and Gaea to the story of these two characters in Anthem.
- Compare the idea of equality in the Declaration of Independence to the idea of equality in Anthem.
- Compare the expulsion of Adam and Eve from the garden of Eden to the story of Prometheus and Gaea. For what “sins” were each condemned?
